    VOTE FOR YOUR 2020-2021 BAND PARENT ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

    Each of your candidates has provided a photo and statement to introduce themselves and explain why they feel that they are the best person to lead our parent organization. Please read each one and then cast your vote below. 

    Michelle Kersting

    My name is Michelle Kersting and I am the parent of a sophomore flute player, have been an Eastern band parent since 2014 and have worked for 501(c)3 (nonprofit) organizations since 1999.
    I hope to make a positive impact on the band parent association by working to make sure all parents feel welcome, informed and respected using full transparency, open communication and encouragement of participation.  I have thoughts on ways to inform new parents of options and expectations for participation at the beginning of the band year as well as a parent mentor plan to ensure they feel like a part of the band parent family.  I believe this will help with volunteer participation for the regular marching season and Eagle Classic as well as fundraising opportunities.  I have designed a document to explain in detail these expectations and opportunities that can be distributed for signature by all parents at the beginning of each band year.

    This is my fourth year as a member of the EHS band family and am honored to be nominated for the role of President for the EHS Band Parent Organization.  I look forward to the possibility of continuing a legacy of musical excellence and leadership as President.
    While there are many effective approaches to leadership, I bring a unique combination of business, musical and personal experiences that I would like for you to consider:

    First, as a sales and sales management professional for the last 20 years, my personal and professional ideology stems from servant leadership.  My desire is to work within this principal to achieve:
    1. Cultural Engagement
    2. Organization and Structure
    3. Process Alignment 
    These three pillars (culture, organization and process) are desperately needed during this time.  I am committed to working with our “board” and the band parents to achieve these initiatives for the continued success of the Marching Eagles.
    Second, is my musical background.  As a semi-professional musician, I have been playing trumpet for over 30 years.  I marched in high school and college and earned a minor in trumpet performance from MTSU, all while earning a BA in Business Management.  I currently play trumpet in several local music groups and am involved in many other music organizations as well.  Music has had a profound impact on my life and I am always searching for ways to give back and serve within the world of music.
    Finally, I am personally invested in the EHS Music Program as we currently have two children who are members (Senior, trumpet and Freshman, french horn) and a seventh grade trombonist.  So, we have a few more years to go.  While music has always been a part of our life, I have always admired and appreciated the music program at Eastern High School for the experiences it has provided our students.  For the confidence that it has instilled in them as musicians and young adults.  And, for the life-lessons that will prove invaluable on their continued journey.
