Woodwind Fest combines our traditional single-instrument days into one all-inclusive day with individualized master classes for each instrument and concerts with Morehead State’s Woodwind Faculty and students, and will feature our guest artist: Ron Aufmann, bass clarinetist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Students will have the opportunity to get help preparing for All-State auditions, college auditions, and receive general information that will help them get to know the “tricks of the trade” for their specific instrument. Vendors will also be available with instruments and gear for students to try—a fun opportunity for any woodwind player!
Students of all ages are welcome to attend and participate in the event, so please share this with your middle school and high school students. More information is included in this e-mail about the event, and you are welcome to forward it on to others who might be interested as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at m.bailey@moreheadstate.edu, or phone at (606) 783-2495. We hope you will be able to join us!
All the best,
Dr. Mary Lindsey Bailey

For years we have offered great events like "Clarinet Day," "Bassoon Day," and "Saxophone Day." This year, we're joining forces! Students will enjoy a fun-filled day of instrument-specific instruction from Morehead State University's world class artist faculty, engaging concerts, special guests and student ensembles, and the chance to try out instruments, accessories, and other equipment from our sponsors.
Students can register and come on their own, but band directors, why not load up all your clarinet, oboe, saxophone and bassoon students on the bus and spend the day eliminating squeaks, improving intonation, and getting inspired for concert contest season?
Dr. David Oyen, bassoon; Dr. Lori Baruth, clarinet; Dr. Matthew Taylor, saxophone; and, brand new this year, Dr. Mary Lindsey Bailey, oboe.
Clarinettists take note: This year's special guest will be Ron Aufmann! Ron Aufmann has played clarinet and bass clarinet with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra since 1986, playing on more than 90 CDs. A student of Earl Bates at IU, he has also studied bass with Lawrence Bocaner of the National Symphony. He appears frequently as chamber musician and soloist. In Cincinnati he has premiered such works as Patrice Sciortino’s AS IF for Bass Clarinet and Wind Ensemble with the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Wind Symphony and Frank Proto’s Afro-American Fragments for Bass Clarinet, Cello, Bass and Narrator. He has been on the faculty of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music since 1995. An artist for both Buffet and D’Addario, Ron plays R-13 clarinets, a Prestige bass and Reserve Classic reeds.
